~My Journey to Free Birth~ birthing truth: a collection of freebirth stories Oct 19, 2021

My journey starts a little over six years ago with the pregnancy and birth of my first child.  My pregnancy was nearly flawless; I got a rash near the end. I did all the things society says to do, (though I tried to initially find a birth center or midwife without luck) went to my prenatal checkups with the OB, read the awful advice books, and trusted the system to allow me the natural birth I wanted.

I knew a good bit about natural birth and how it is supposed to work, best positions, and I t...

A Surprise Breech Freebirth birthing truth: a collection of freebirth stories Oct 19, 2021

My waters started leaking at 1.30am Easter Sunday morning and leaked steadily through the day. I had no contractions and even got into bed that night, almost asleep and little Ryzer gave me the hardest (what I thought was a punch) kick that it made me bolt upright. Sleeping wasn’t on the cards and as soon as I stood up the contractions began. The last time I looked at the clock was as I got out of bed. It was 9.00pm, I wasn’t timing contractions but they seemed so close and intense for the begin...

Nuala's birth in 2015 in Halifax, Nova Scotia birthing truth: a collection of freebirth stories Oct 19, 2021
Nuala was conceived in the Fall. We lived in a tiny apartment in the West End of Halifax. I had a marvelous time as I spiraled through my pregnancy. I danced, did yoga, taught yoga, chanted, meditated, and spent time in nature. I did all my favourite things but everything had the added extra element of Nuala. We got to know each other. After she was born, I would look back at memories of my pregnancy and think, "It was you! That whole time, it was you inside me!"

I loved feeling her kick fro...

Joanna River’s Freebirth Story & Curing Cholestasis birthing truth: a collection of freebirth stories Oct 19, 2021

Most of my pregnancy was unassisted, although I had 3 very limited “prenatal” visits overall with an incredible midwife friend who was fully supportive of my plans to freebirth but helped me get my breast pump through insurance and filled out my FMLA paperwork. I also reconnected with a childhood friend who has had her own babies unassisted and who blessed us by attending Joanna’s birth.

Everything was going well until 31 weeks pregnant, when independent blood labs I ordered confirmed suspected...

đź’«Birth story of Noah David đź’« birthing truth: a collection of freebirth stories Oct 18, 2021

Sunday, February 11th at 8am on the dot I woke up to pee. While on the toilet I had a very painful contraction that annoyed me more than anything because I thought there was no way today was the day. I was 39 weeks, 5 days pregnant with my 3rd baby, 2nd free birth, and this was the longest I'd ever been pregnant. My older boys came at 37+3, and 37+6 on their own, so I thought for sure this babe would be the same.

I tried to lay back down but had 2 more painful contraction within 10 minutes....

An Incredible Family Home Birth birthing truth: a collection of freebirth stories Oct 18, 2021

I had always thought I’d have a hospital birth. After all, I wanted to make sure that my baby and I would be safe…where could be safer than a hospital? My sister Jessica is a doula and she told my husband and I that research shows home births are safer. But not until we began talking about getting pregnant and began researching and learning did I agree with her. I completely immersed myself in learning as much as I could about birth and pregnancy. All I did while I was trying to get pregnant, an...
