My journey starts a little over six years ago with the pregnancy and birth of my first child. Â My pregnancy was nearly flawless; I got a rash near the end. I did all the things society says to do, (though I tried to initially find a birth center or midwife without luck) went to my prenatal checkups with the OB, read the awful advice books, and trusted the system to allow me the natural birth I wanted.
I knew a good bit about natural birth and how it is supposed to work, best positions, and I t...
My waters started leaking at 1.30am Easter Sunday morning and leaked steadily through the day. I had no contractions and even got into bed that night, almost asleep and little Ryzer gave me the hardest (what I thought was a punch) kick that it made me bolt upright. I tried to lay back down but had 2 more painful contraction within 10 minutes....
I had always thought I’d have a hospital birth. After all, I wanted to make sure that my baby and I would be safe…where could be safer than a hospital? My sister Jessica is a doula and she told my husband and I that research shows home births are safer. But not until we began talking about getting pregnant and began researching and learning did I agree with her. I completely immersed myself in learning as much as I could about birth and pregnancy. All I did while I was trying to get pregnant, an...
