The story really starts on February 1st, the day before I went into labour. This was the night my mother arrived. Bear and I went to the airport to pick her up, and I was so excited to see her. I hadn’t ever had this much time with her, since leaving home nine years ago. We had only really started to rebuild our relationship this year, when I found out I was pregnant with Tahvy.
We sat in our dining room, the three of us. Bear and my mother and I.
“I love your daughter,” he said to my mother. “I...
I’ve birthed 7 babies. 6 of them I experienced an over medicalized birth in a mainstream hospital maternity ward. Each and every 6 hospital births were a push of interventions. Little options were given. “We are giving you an IV.” “We are keeping the monitor on.” “We can’t let you submerse yourself in water since your water has broken.” “We are going to start pitocin.” “Here’s your hospital gown.” “We are cutting the cord now.” “We need to deliver your placenta sooner than later.” “Don’t push ye...
I did it. I freebirthed my first child at home, and it was the most amazing and beautiful night of my life. I’ll probably say something shocking now: my body did all the work (as it’s designed to do!) – all I had to do is … well, go with the flow and surrender to this transformative process. Everything went smoothly, and if I ever give birth again, I’ll choose to freebirth in a heartbeat.

But I woke up feeling some surges so I thought I better stay home. I told my sister to go without me and I would let her know if she needed to come back. I wasn't trying to get all excited because I had felt surges like this before. By about 9:00am I was pretty sure it was the real thing only because they continued to come bu...

Birthed 42+2
My contractions started at 11:15ish pm and started out consistently no more than 2 minutes apart. I labored until 2am before waking my husband and telling him I no longer wanted to labor alone, and I was unsure of when to get in the pool. He started to set up. I decided it was time. Once I got in, contractions continued to get more intense. Laboring til 5:30am. I started to...
