It all began Friday June 22nd as I arrived for my last prenatal appt for 9:30am. I went in knowing I would have a cervical check to see how far along I was and to find out I was at 3cm. Cool. We discussed labor and me going in if baby decided to come early( she wasn’t aware I was having a Home birth) and she mentioned possible induction which I told her i wanted to go into labor naturally. We spoke briefly and before she left ( total of maybe 5 minutes my appt was) she handed me a pad as she wal...
The birth story of my daughter Layla begins with the birth of my first daughter, Maia. After many factors playing out, both personal and transpersonal, Maia was born by cesarean after a four day long labor period, the first three being at home unassisted. My daughter Maia’s birth was a traumatic experience for me. Even though what I experienced is common, borderline typical for hospital births nowadays, it was an invasive act against my body as a woman, my womb as the carrier of new life, and my...
I knew something had changed the night of June 22nd & the next day June 23rd. I started having regular tightening sensations in my abdomen. I wasn't exactly sure if they were Braxton hicks since they were becoming more consistent, but at the same time they weren't consistent enough to time. As the waves started getting closer, it was no longer comfortable to sit still or lay down. I rotated between walking around and hanging out...
Like I had for several mornings in a row, I lost a large piece of mucus plug first thing in the morning. This one was pretty large, but I didn’t want to get my hopes up. I went about my day as usual. After on and off tightening (“Braxton Hicks”) throughout the day, I began to notice a familiar regularity. I was bouncing on my birth ball after the kids had gone to bed, putting together my birth playlist and going through, playing my favorite songs, just trying to r...
Roland is my third child, second born at home with only my partner and other children present. Â Every birth is different, every birth reveals lessons in life and helps us become wiser as a result. Â
My first birth was traumatic, but it lead me to seek out a better way, to find my power, to a new passion, to birth my way.  I tell my oldest it was meant to be, that she helped lead me to family birth so that her sibling’s would have peaceful births; she loves this idea.
My second birth was simpl...
