| I have to tell you what happened when the UCL freebirth study went live last Thursday.
Within three hours of my posting the study link on Instagram, 100 women had shared their stories. By the end of the first day, we were at 300. We hit 500 submissions within the first three days, which brought us to our first big goal.
I am OVER THE MOON to share that we just passed 800 submissions in the last hour.
IN FOUR DAYS!🤯
To put that in perspective, most published research on freebirth has been based on interviews with fewer than twenty women. In a single hour, we've gathered more freebirth stories than any study before us. We are ecstatic, and so grateful to every single one of you who sat down and gave your time and your experience to this. And we're not done yet.
By having reached 800, we officially have more than enough data to really make a mark. But the dream I've carried since the very beginning is five thousand. Five thousand women's experiences, documented and studied by a respected university.
That's the kind of number that can change the narrative and it could shape how freebirth is understood and talked about for years to come.
If you had a freebirth, or you planned one and shifted gears for any reason, we need your story. Every path belongs in this research, including the ones that didn't unfold the way you imagined. We need the truth about birth.
Share your story at freebirthstudy.com
I can't get us to five thousand on my own. It's going to take our whole network and this worldwide community of women.
Share the link on your Instagram.
Message the women you know who have had freebirths and send it to them directly, because a personal note from a friend means more than any post.
Drop it in the birth groups and mom groups you're part of, and forward this email to anyone who should see it.
You don't need to mention Free Birth Society or me when you share. This is a UCL study. I helped design it, and now I'm helping spread the word, and what matters most is that it reaches as many women as possible.
If it's easier, you can copy and paste this:
"Hey, University College London is running a study on freebirth, and they're collecting stories from women who freebirthed or planned to. I thought of you. It's at freebirthstudy.com if you want to share yours."
Thank you for being part of this. Let's make history together.
